Biography
Robert Morris, M.D.
A Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Dr. Morris has regularly contributed to national and international journals and conferences during the past ten years. His advanced training and surgical skills are particularly recognized in the treatment of severe eye injuries and surgery of the macula, the center of vision.
Dr. Morris graduated from Purdue University and later received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. An outstanding Air Force officer and jet pilot during his military service, Dr. Morris went on to complete a Residency at The Eye Foundation Hospital/University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). He later completed retina Fellowships at the University of Cologne, West Germany and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
Through over two hundred publications and presentations, plus training
of other vitreoretinal physicians, Dr. Morris has made a significant
impact within the medical community. He holds seven patents related
to eye care. He is co-founder of the Retina Research Foundation
of Alabama, The Eye Injury Registry of Alabama, the Helen Keller
Eye Research Foundation and the United States Eye Injury Registry.
Dr. Morris serves on numerous medical advisory boards, is a past
president of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology. In 1995, Dr.
Morris received the Migel medal from the American Foundation for
the Blind for greatest voluntary contribution by an individual to
the field of blindness. He is currently President of the International
Society of Ocular Trauma. He also serves as Professor of Ophthalmology
at UAB.
Currently, Dr. Morris is Principal Investigator for the Regenerron VGFT-OD-0605, A Randomized. Double Masked, Active Controlled Phase III Study of the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of Repeated Doses of Intravitreal VEGF Trap in Subjects with Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
